What can you do with play dough?
Anything!
You can add in your favorite cookie cutters and stamp away.
You can roll it into a snake shape and use safety scissors to practice cutting.
You can incorporate academics with letter, number or shape stamps.
You can differentiate the themes based on your interests: trucks, Dino’s, princesses, legos, gems, farm animals…anything at all!!
You can create and play and use your imagination any way you want.
It’s pure magic and the benefits are truly endless!
Exploring play dough can also be incredibly calming. As kids (or adults!) squish and squeeze and smoosh the dough, their bodies are learning to self-regulate. They are focusing on their task, they are moving their hands and they are calming their breathing.
It can be a great way to release big emotions in a safe and supportive way.
Materials:
1 cup flour
1 cup water
1/4 cup salt
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
3-4 tea bags- I used 3 different kinds of fruit tea!
Step 1: Measure 1 cup of water into a measuring cup and add in your tea bags. Let them steep for a few minutes. Squeeze out the tea bags and remove.
Step 2: Pour all ingredients into a pan. Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently.
Step 3: When it forms a ball, remove from pan.
Step 4: After it cools, knead well.
Step 5: Store in an airtight container for up to 6 months!
How do you store play dough?
Store it in a Ziploc bag or Tupperware container with a lid.
You get to decide what is safe and manageable in your home. Always monitor young children.
