In this BLOG post I will teach you how to make this edible, holiday-themed play dough!
This play dough recipe only requires TWO ingredients, you do not have to cook it, and it is completely EDIBLE!
It's soft and squishy and the perfect recipe for those just starting out with sensory play. Did I mention that it smells AMAZINGGGGG?!?!
You can build with it, mold it, use cookie cutters to stamp it or just squeeze and squish away.
You can add sprinkles, your favorite trinkets or just use your hands and it is SO FUN each and every time.
TWO ingredients. That's all you need and the kids can probably make this recipe on their own, which adds an extra layer or learning and fun in there!

The only other thing you need is...powdered sugar!

Materials:
Frosting
Powdered sugar
Mixing cup
Bowl
Spoon
Sensory tray or bowl
Any tools or trinkets you'd like
Step 1: Measure and pour (1) cup of frosting into the bowl.
Step 2: If your frosting is not colored and you would like to dye it, add 3-5 drops of food coloring now and mix well.
Step 3: Pour in (2 3/4) cups of powdered sugar.
Step 4: Mix all of the ingredients until fully incorporated. After you mix your dough, it may still look a bit crumbly. Here's where your hands get a workout! Take the mixture out & knead it. The more you squish & squeeze & smoosh the dough, the softer it gets! As all of the ingredients blend together, the dough becomes silky soft, easy to mold & perfect for little hands.
Step 5: Place it on your sensory tray or bowl, add in your favorite tools and trinkets and PLAY!
Storage tips:
Wrap in plastic wrap and keep in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
How long does this play dough last?
This dough will last up to a week.
Because it is a food-based dough, it does not have the same shelf life as other recipes.
If you notice mold, discard immediately.
If it is too hard, add a little more frosting and knead it back in until soft.
Problem shooting:
If it feels too sticky, add a bit more powdered sugar.
If it feels to dry, add a few drops of water and knead well.
Is this truly edible?
YES! This is safe for consumption, but keep in mind that even though something is taste-safe/edible, I still discourage children from eating it by using the phrase "Not food!' Providing taste safe options is something that allows those still exploring with their mouths access to sensory play in a safe and manageable way. If they do taste it, it is safe.
